For those of us who blush tips on how not to blush are always welcome, some people think that blushing is cute and that it shows how you’re feeling, but we, the blushers, definitely don’t agree with this.
Blushing can make you feel very self conscious and can even stop you attending events because of the fear of blushing. Blushing is natural and can be caused by emotional or physical triggers, finding your trigger is the key when it comes to controlling your blushing.
There are many triggers for blushing that include: exercise, heat, spicy foods, stress, anxiety, fear and embarrassment to mention just a few. You could be anywhere at any time and all of a sudden here it comes, the rush of blood to the face, which turns it beetroot red, and the more you acknowledge your blushing, the worse it gets.
You feel like everyone else has stopped what they’re doing and are all just looking at your glowing, red face, even though this probably isn’t the case at all, but at that moment it’s how we, as blushers, would feel, this is one reason why we are always looking for tips on how not to blush.
So here are some tips on how not to blush, I really hope they’ll help you!
- Relax your whole body
When you feel you’re starting to blush try and relax the muscles in your neck and shoulders, you have to try and take away the tension. Watch your breathing, breathe deeply. When you’re blushing keep on smiling, this will cause your cheeks to redden naturally and smiling will make you feel happier too, even though you’re blushing. - Don’t concentrate on your blushing
When you start blushing try not to think about it as this will just make things a lot worse, research has found that the more we think we are blushing, the more we actually do. Try and find a way so that you’re not thinking about your blushing and then it will fade away faster.

If you’re out and about and someone compliments a new hairstyle for instance you know that you’ll probably go on to blush so just say something like “I’m going to blush now you’ve said that” and then forget about it. The point is that you’ve acknowledged it and you know it’s going to happen and then just move on and think about something else. Thought exercises really do work to help control blushing. When you feel yourself burning up try and picture yourself somewhere very cold, imagine that you are jumping into a cold lake, just imagine how cool this would make your whole body feel. It really does help and you will relax too.
Another thought provoking point is to imagine people living in poor parts of the world, compare your own situation to theirs. The key point here is that we really do have it better than most and having a nice compliment that makes you blush shouldn’t cause distress, when compared with someone struggling to find enough food to survive. Yes this is absolutely true you really aren’t responsible for your blushing. It is a natural reaction to a trigger, it is involuntary, it just happens. - Stop caring about blushing
To a blusher you feel that when you blush the whole room stops and stares at you, this, however, definitely isn’t the case, they probably haven’t even noticed. When you stop caring about blushing you blush a lot less, you will still feel it happening but it really won’t bother you anymore.
- Exercise before an event
If you are going somewhere and you know that you’re probably going to end up blushing try and do some exercise. By exercising you will have a nice natural red hue that will look healthy after an exercise session and your blood pressure will be lowered too. This is a great tip for how not to blush.

How not to blush, I hear you cry, well, have you tried meditation or yoga? Both of these will help calm your body and mind. You will feel more in control of your body and will blush less, or you could prevent blushing in the first place. There are many different types of yoga, some are more difficult to master than others but there are many to choose from.
Meditation is perfect to calm an anxious mind, and it can mean many things, you could just try sitting for a few moments while being aware of your body. Think about the thoughts that are in your head and then let them go. Breathe deeply and really become aware of your whole body, this will greatly reduce stress and anxiety.
Well as you can see there are many ways that we can try and control or prevent blushing. The point to remember is that it is completely natural and is involuntary, it just happens, and some of us blush more than others. What we, as blushers, have to do is to learn to accept that it’s just a part of us and that we will probably always blush from time to time, although there are some things we can do to reduce our blushing.
